Season Finale

Posted by on Nov 9, 2016 in Blog | 0 comments

The Season has finally finished and now we have the time to update our blog. An awful lot has happened this year in that we have bought Glevum Boats from Slimbridge, so that makes us the sole operator on the Gloucester-Sharpness Canal. This has been a fantastic year and all our handover staff are now qualified RYA instructors, meaning that when you hire a narrowboat from us you can be sure that the tuition and instruction is of the highest standard. A big thank-you must go out to all our customers, not only for their kind words at the end of their day but also to all of those who took the time and trouble to post a review on TripAdvisor. We are indeed proud of the fact that we are still the number 1 outdoor activity in Gloucester – a position we will strive to maintain for next year. The boats have been laid up for the winter and the team are taking a well earned break. We have a schedule of winter maintenance to be carried out on Badger and Otter to get them into first class condition ready for the new season, beginning March 1st 2017. These are exiting times for Gloucester Narrowboats as we have two new boats starting next year, the first being Glevum – a 32 foot purpose built trip boat that will be offering 45 minute trips up and down the Gloucester – Sharpness canal. We have just commissioned a new boat called Ratty, to be built by R W Davis at Saul Junction, one of if not the best, canalside boatbuilders and repair yards in the country. This boat will be 45 feet long and will be available for up to 4 people to hire for 3 and 4 night relaxing holidays along the Gloucester – Sharpness Canal. The boat will be available to hire from April 2017 and you can book it, online, from January 2017. Watch the website for major updates in January. Once again a big thank-you to all our customers – past and present and we look forward to what we are confident will be another successful year for Gloucester...

Spring is here

Well the season has started with some great weather and a lot of people have enjoyed a day out on one of our boats. The kingfishers are still along the canal and have been spotted by a lucky few as well as the swans starting to build nests for the new season. Finally congratulations to Tony Wills who hired one of our boats yesterday and at a suitably quiet place along the canal went down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend. We are pleased to say she said yes and we were lucky enough to be the first to congratulate them when they returned the boat. This was a first for Gloucester Narrowboats and we wish them...

Posted by on Feb 8, 2016 in Blog | 0 comments

Just a few weeks to go now until our 2016 season starts on 1st March. Both boats are fully serviced & ready to go and all that remains is a little painting and varnishing, recommisioning the water systems and probably testing both boats ourselves which all the team enjoy doing most of all. If you see us out and about give us a wave and thanks to all who have already booked what we know will be a great, relaxing day out in the beautiful Gloucestershire...

Well the winter seems to be staying away and both our boats Badger and Otter were out and about last weekend being crewed by our signwriter from Werxco and one of the full time bridgekeepers and his young son. The water systems are fully drained down and the cushions removed for cleaning ready for March 1st 2016 when it all starts again. We will be busy during the next couple of months continuing a deep clean on both boats as well as touching up paint and varnish so they are pristine and ready for what we are confident will be another busy year. There will be a small price increase being applied in the New Year so if you are thinking about booking we advise doing it before this price increase is applied saving you a little bit of money. Finally thanks to everyone who hired a boat last year and welcome to everyone who is going to hire one this year and may all the team at Gloucester Narrowboats wish you a very Merry...

What a great year. First of all a big thank you to everyone who hired one of our boats and to all the background team who have helped keep the boats and the business running. We are all taking a well earned rest now and are planning for the future. We are still considering another boat which may be available for short term hire but at the moment we are concentrating on getting Badger and Otter ready for next season and keeping up our reputation as the Number 1 outdoor attraction on Trip Advisor for Gloucester. We will keep this blog more up to date so please watch for more...

Posted by on Jun 16, 2015 in Blog | 0 comments

Otter is ready to be launched in 7 days time. Our second boat Otter is now fully fitted out and the engine installed. The team are finishing off the last few things that need doing Monday morning before her Boat Safety inspection that afternoon. We plan to launch her into the river Severn at 8 o’clock in the morning next Saturday (20th June). She will then be tested for the next 10 days before being available for hire from 1st July. Thanks to everyone who has booked and enjoyed a day out on Badger and to all who have pre-booked days out on both Badger & Otter. We have just purchased our third boat which will be available for 3 & 4 night breaks from 1st March 2016. Here’s hoping for a safe and successful launch – more details and pictures will follow...
